Exams cancellation in the school of information sciences

 By maurine kiptum

The first semester Examinations in the school of information sciences has been cancelled following the exam leakage that saw most of the students complete their exam in thirty minutes time. The schools exam co-ordination board announced the cancellation of the exam in a meeting held at LT1 on Friday 13th June.
It was the first time for the  SIS to ever steal the exam where some of the students were found with stealing materials such as mwakenyas  carrying exactly the answers  to the questions in the exam paper while others tattooed their bodies with A,B,C,D answers which was a clear conviction that the exam actually leaked. Others finished up the paper in 30 minutes time. “How can someone finish my paper within 30 minutes?” Dr. Okello an I.T lecturer remarked “In an hour’s time all the students were done except a few who were just wrapping up.
Some individuals were caught stealing glances at their phones which had a photo of a section of exercise books notes photographed so as to copy.
The exams board chairperson Mr.Wanade said the students who were found cheating in exams will face the panel and a disciplinary action be taken on them and will serve as an example to the rest. However the board’s major interest was to determine the source of the exam disclosure by summoning the culprits whom after thorough interrogation revealed their fellow students who also had the paper and the cycle went on like that to a list of 84 students mentioned.
The list is however controversial since some students raised claims that they were purported by their enemies.

I interviewed one of the students who anonymously exposed how the students hack the emails of their lectures when given to submit their assignments online. The student further brought out to the open how some staffs who are also students in their class got the leak from their colleagues who are exam setters which is later disseminated to the rest of the class through friendship.
Others voiced out their cry on how the syllabuses are shallowly covered and that some lectures severally miss classes with no time to recover due to the shortened semesters.
“It’s a mutual benefit we pay them, they give us the questions so is today’s business” another student affirmed how they group themselves and contribute cash to buy the exam from the sources.

All that were involved including the students and the staff will face the Moi university senate board on 27th July this year where they will face the full execution of the university law.
